    Blogs Are a Funny Thing

    Blogs Are a Funny Thing

     ....

This past weekend was one of the most rewarding of my life.  My passion for Payton Wright and her family is no real secret to those who’ve been with me from the beginning.  But this weekend it took on a whole new meaning.  There’s no doubt in my mind I was born to be a singer/writer/entertainer, but I never knew the duties that being those would bring along as well.  I made a commitment to Payton’s father Patrick over two years ago, and for the first time in two years, I finally felt as if I had contributed to the cause.  ....

     ....

Patrick and Holly Wright have become family, as well as their two beautiful girls Savannah and Sidney!  I stayed with them in their home this past Friday, and it was truly a touching experience.  I could tell the girls were nervous in a very sweet, genuinely adolescent way.  Holly is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met, and Patrick, well Patrick and I are almost just alike.  ....

     ....

After the night was winding down, I began to lose control of the emotions I held in for most of the day/night.  I sat with Patrick and Big Mike (one of Patrick’s best friends) for about 30 minutes and cried and cried.  Payton has had such a tremendous effect of me both personally and professionally.  She has reminded me just what true courage means, and that strength isn’t how much you can bench press, but how a 4 year old can fight off the most powerful cancer for a year, just so her and her family can have a little more time together.  ....

     ....

I personally haven’t had the unfortunate task of watching someone so close to me struggle with something so tragic as cancer.  What Patrick and Holly are doing and have done deserves so much more attention than it’s gotten, and is currently getting.  To see 50 plus volunteers offering up any and everything to whatever brings the most money and attention to the cause was truly inspirational.  ....

     ....

I cannot guarantee that you won’t grow sick of my preaching in the future, for I know I can be long winded at times, but I assure you it will continue to grow and grow from this day forward.....

New Mexico, Steve McNair, Top 30, Laws, St. Louis

New Mexico, Steve McNair, Top 30, Laws, St. Louis

So we’re on the way to Albuquerque and of course there’s a few crying babies on the flight, which has stops in both Birmingham and Dallas along the way.

     ....

With EJ to my left and Ward across the aisle to my right, I feel a little calmer flying today.  I’m also listening the Ray LaMontagne’s latest record (thanks to Tom Lord), which I’m sure is easing the nerves a bit as well.

     ....

So in the past week I’ve taken up a new hobby.  I’ve never been much of a golfer.  I bought clubs when I signed my first record deal, and played a lot that first year, but I was mainly the one to two times a year golfer until recently.  After getting married, I knew I needed to find something to help me get out of the house.  When you marry your best friend, it’s hard to take part in many activities either alone or with other friends, so I had begun pondering taking up the game again for a few weeks.   This past weekend I played over 30 holes in Catherine’s hometown of Collierville, TN.  I played again yesterday in Nashville with some friends from the label, and I think I’m most likely hooked.  I’ll be playing the Sandia Resort and Casino tomorrow in Albuquerque, and I hope to play somewhere in Nashville this weekend when I return home.

     ....

So Nashville is in mourning this week.  I was in Memphis Saturday when I caught word of the terrible tragedy involving Steve McNair.  I can’t fathom what his family must be feeling. Death is hard enough when it’s expected, and yet the circumstances surrounding McNair have to make it even more impossible.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned, as I’ve grown older, it’s that there is no one perfect enough to judge, with the exception of God of course.  I’m not here to condone McNair’s dating outside his marriage, but I will say there is no sin whatsoever horrific enough for another human to take a life.  He deserved the chance to repent, and ask for forgiveness in the ways we all have and will continue to do so.    You can’t hide the impact Steve McNair had on our community.  No one act makes a man a great one, and no sin makes a man a bad one.  There were far more amazing things McNair did that should eventually outshine the obvious mistake that unfortunately lead to his death.  The more we chastise his memory with questions of “how could he be a role model”, the more we run from the real lessons to be learned.  The reality of this horrifically sad story is that we are all humans, and no sin is more tolerable in the eyes of the Lord.  My prayers go out to his wife, children, family and friends.  I have friends and family who all have their share of demons, and there was a time when I lost sight of the path the good Lord laid out for me 30 years ago, but if we all were subject to the wrath of another human being, we would all have surely been murdered multiple times over throughout this journey that is life.

     ....

Blake Shelton is the greatest Twitter-er of all-time.  He can get a bit vulgar at times, but it’s usually pretty hilarious.

     ....

If I could do two things in this world!  #1 dunk a basketball, and #2 is sleep on a plane!

     ....

I bet we’re flying over Mississippi right now!  I like Mississippi a lot, mainly because my wife went to school there, and like I often say, it makes my “quality of life” much better to support the wife’s alma mater!  Go Rebels!

     ....

It’s getting a bit bumpy now, which is causing my calm demeanor to lessen by the millisecond!

     ....

Ward is watching the movie about the Dixie Chicks called “Shut Up and Sing”.  I really miss the Dixie Chicks, and I feel sad for the two sisters in the group!  We lead singers tend to talk a little too much!

     ....

So I’ve been married a month now, and I must say it’s the best feeling in the world.  I got real lucky, and I hope all of you out there find what I finally found after so many years of misses.

     ....

We’re almost a month away from the record being released, and now that we’re in the Top 30 at radio, I can’t say how excited I am.  I have made many hopeful long lasting friendships with radio stations all over the country.  It is so detrimental to have those relationships, otherwise so many of you wouldn’t have the slightest idea who I am!

     ....

I love music, and I love sports, and I hope that doesn’t make me boring.  I’ve never been a guy who wants to tour art museums, travel abroad, or see the Grand Canyon.  I want to watch Glen Campbell play Dodger Stadium, seeing as I’ve never seen either, I could kill two birds with that ever-popular one stone.

     ....

I’m slowly growing addictive to coffee…

     ....

I’m ready to start writing again!

     ....

If Britney Spears can return, surely the Dixie Chicks can make a comeback.

     ....

So the video for “Red Light” should be out shortly!  Just saw a rough version this morning before boarding the plane, and I think it’ll be really cool, and far edgier and real than “I’m About To Come Alive”!

     ....

I used to really have a crush on that dark haired Dixie Chick!

     ....

I’m really into this old song from Boz Skaggs from the Urban Cowboy movie!

     ....

I enjoy working out only when my entire day can revolve around it.

     ....

Jason Whitlock from the Kansas City-Star is an absolute idiot!  I’ve never heard a bigger shock-jock in my life.  If I were an African-American, I would denounce him from my race.  He’s simply a bitter ex-college player who quite simply wasn’t good enough to be among those he critics on a daily basis.  His article on Steve McNair was not only insensitive, but also plain ridiculous, and offensive to any male OR female!  His grammar use was a poor attempt at referencing a lingo he knows nothing about, and I would venture to say the majority of his readers had zero clues to what point the article hoped to make.

Amos Lee is as smooth as Reelfoot Lake at 5am in April, just before the hardcore crappie fishermen start scurrying across the water!

     ....

I may never have children as long as my weeks are spent flying with them.

     ....

If you want to prevent teenage pregnancy, make it mandatory for all teens to make a cross-country flight with 5 or 6 babies on the plane.  They may never crave a single kiss again!!!

     ....

Ward is REALLY something!  EJ is simply indescribable!  If there were ever two people you didn’t want to be on a three-day trip with, EJ and Ward would be near the top.

     ....

Okay, getting yelled at to turn power off, check in later!!!

     ....

So we’re back up above the clouds on our way to New Mexico!

     ....

How about a little Patty Griffin anyone?

     ....

I’m about to watch the rough video real quick, be back soon!

     ....

K, that’s just weird watching me on film!  Plain weird!!!

     ....

I think Chuck Taylor’s should be a staple in everyone’s closet, both male and female.

     ....

I think I’d like to live somewhere a little cooler in the summer.

     ....

I think it can’t be comfortable the way Ward has his legs crossed.

     ....

I think EJ laughing at Slap Shot on his IPOD is funnier than the movie itself.

     ....

I think I’d love to go to the homerun derby on Monday night!

     ....

I think the fact that Men’s Health magazine gave St. Louis a D- as a sports town is absurd.

     ....

I wonder how many math classes you must pass to be a pilot?

     ....

I think the seats should be an inch wider on both sides; two inches would help so much!

     ....

I think “don’t form a line in the front of the airplane” includes not lining up on the third row as well.

     ....

I think I’m going to watch Ward’s movie!  Peace out!  Red Lighters!!!!

     ....

     ....

I’ve possibly never been less excited to go to St. Louis in my life.  Okay, I’m slightly kidding.  I always love being back in my home state, even when my Cardinals are on the road.  We’re going to be shooting some stuff for MLB.com, which should be really cool.  I check out their website weekly.  I may have the chance to go to the Futures Game Sunday before returning home.   I’m pretty sure Pedro Alvarez from Vandy is playing in the game, which would be great to see.

     ....

Nelly Furtado is both a beautiful singer and lady.

     ....

So we had a great show in Albuquerque last night at the County Line.  The crowd was really into it, and I’d like to thank KRST for playing Red Light enough that people really knew the words and sang along.  We had a great time visiting with the locals, and the folks at County Line treated us amazing.  If you get a chance to eat there, it’s certainly worth the time.  The BBQ is quite special…

     ....

Speaking of BBQ, is there anything better in the world?  I could eat it everyday, and did so last week.  I had mustard based in Columbia, SC, vinegar in Lexington, SC, tomato based in Alcoa, TN and Memphis, TN.

     ....

Speaking of Alcoa, I had the chance to hang with Micah and Ashley Marsh in Alcoa.  They are arguably the most famous couple from Arkansas State University.  Micah and I had a three-point shootout that he dominated me in quite humorously.  Ashley was the first person to ever interview me when she was still in radio in Jonesboro, AR.

     ....

Kings of Leon, I think so!

     ....

I have to quit eating ice; my teeth are going all break apart someday…

     ....

Are you bored yet, well I am too, so that’s why I’m going to continue rambling?

     ....

I hope it’s not crazy hot today in St. Louis!

     ....

I hope Red Light goes Top 20 in the next few weeks…

     ....

I am beyond excited for my record to be out in stores next month.

     ....

I’m still very interested in how this big huge metal thing climbs 35,000 feet in the air.

     ....

I’m flying to St. Louis alone today, and I actually miss the guys.

     ....

I’m quite sure Catherine wishes I were home today.

     ....

I’m quite possibly the most easily biased person in the world.  If you are my friend, I will champion you to the highest degree, even when you necessarily don’t call for it.

     ....

I’m still very bothered by Steve McNair’s death.  I met him a few times.  Never conversed beyond something short and simple, but I felt like I knew him.  I feel like we had a lot in common for some reason.  He always seemed very real, and never rehearsed, and I think that’s simply the only way to be.

     ....

I don’t have the ability to be fake, and sometimes that rubs people a little iffy, but I just don’t know how to act that well, so what you see is what you get.  I love what I do, and doing what I do allows me to see so many wonderful people and places.

     ....

I just ordered coffee again.  Oh my!!!

     ....

I love the Kings of Leon.  This CD should win a Grammy!

     ....

Okay, I’m starting to get excited, and I haven’t even had my coffee yet.  I love Missouri, and I’m so proud to have grown up there.  I love so many places in this fine country, but Missouri is home, and it’s where I they will spread my ashes!

     ....

    How about a list?

     ....

My number one thing these days is Whole Foods!  Catherine and I enjoy shopping there more than anything we do together.

     ....

My number two these days in Ben Sherman vests!  It’s kind of becoming my thing I guess!

     ....

My number three these days is the boldest/darkest/blackest coffee I can find.  If I have food in my stomach, I could drink it all day…

     ....

My number four these days is actually a fictitious law I’m considering, which would be no children under the age of 5 on airplanes!  Ha!  You got to admit, that was funny!!!

     ....

I bet we’re flying over Missouri right now, and that has me bubbling with excitement!  This blog is done guys, I don’t want to ever randomly random for the sake of being random!  Good afternoon, and goodbye to all you Red Lighters!!!

Denver Denver, oh you are a lucky place!!!

Denver Denver, oh you are a lucky place!!!

So if you’ve missed me lately, or at least missed my blogs, I’m on a flight this morning to Denver, so I’m going to try and make up for the past several weeks!

Where do I start?  I’m a married man now, which tends to freak me out at least a few times every day.  Not in a bad way of course, but when you spend 30 years without a ring on your left hand, it’s a bit odd to look down sometimes and see one.  Catherine and I got married June 6th in Franklin, TN!  It was a beautiful day, and an extremely emotional one for me.  I looked around so many times and saw so many close friends and family members, and I realized that day may be the only day where so many are in the same spot.  I’ve never been too proud to show my emotions, and my wedding day was no exception.

I’m listening to an advance of Jonathon Singleton’s new CD and I love it.  Jonathon wrote Red Light among others, and so it’s no surprise that the songs are so strong, but like I often do, I get really biased when I get to know someone, and I’ve really enjoyed being around the guy the last few months.

So Red Light is on the verge of the Top 30, which is completely new ground for me.  It’s been magical to go out and see so many people singing the song, and knowing its David Nail who sings it.  This is all I’ve ever wanted to do since leaving home 10 years ago, and it may have taken 10 years to gain some momentum, but it’s so much sweeter at age 30, and with a wife to share it with.  Let’s go Top Ten, what do you say?

UMG is such an unbelievable company to work for.  Some would say it’s not smart to be so close to those you work with, but I welcome the pressure of wanted to succeed for my friends.  It makes me work harder, and it motivates me on mornings like these when I had to get ready at 4:45am to catch a plan out west.

We’re shooting the video for Red Light this Thursday in Nashville.  I’m excited to say the least.  Roman White will be directing once again.  I can’t foresee myself using anyone else in the future.  I don’t have a clue how the finished product will turn out, but I think it’ll be real gritty and indie looking.  I wanted to do something different than I’m About To Come Alive, and I think this will be much more raw and intense.

Its pretty sad Ward has to put his arms through the seatbelt so he doesn’t punch the people beside him on the plane.  He has serious twitching problems while sleeping.  It’s actually pretty hilarious.

So I’ve been everywhere but the west coast the last few months.  I spent four days in Chicago the last part of May for both a show at Joe’s Bar, and then a little guy’s weekend toward the end.  Chicago is hands down my favorite city, and to have 14 of my best friends there for such a long weekend, was about as cool a weekend as I’ve had.

I’ve never been more ready for a kid to tap a nap in my life.  This kid behind me has asked his mother if everyone on the plane is going to see his or her grandmother about 75 times, mixed with kicking the back of my chair more or less since the moment we boarded.  GEEEEEEEEEZ!!!

We spent a weekend in the Baltimore/DC area last weekend.  Baltimore was interesting to say the least.  I really don’t know where to begin, but let’s just say when they have to call in a security guy in to protect a guy with a song around #30, it means for a wild night.  I was worried at first, but the guys and me ended up playing a little over an hour, and it was a blast.  DC was great as well.  I had never been, so Putnam tried to cram as much as possible in the 24 hours we were there.

Put me down for another George Strait show.  I’m well into the teens now.  It’s so cool to think of him as a label mate.  I hope to stay at MCA Record as long as he has, and I’ll settle for a 3rd of the number 1’s!

How great a singer is Mark Chesnutt?

Oh by the way, I got the exit row seat this morning, so I have tons of room for a change.

It’s too cloudy to see where we’re flying over, but I could care less as long as it’s smooth.  I had about 6 bumpy flights in a row the last few weeks, and was close to abandoning flying altogether, but earlier this week Southwest proved once again that it IS possible to have a smooth flight.

I want to someday be able to spend a weekend a month somewhere unique, for example.  Say I come home one day and say “Catherine, we’re going to the Colorado mountains this weekend”, the beach in Naples, Florida, or maybe the vineyards in Washington State.  I’m sure you get the drift.  I love to travel, and I realized that on our extra short and sweet honeymoon that I love traveling with my wife.  Catherine reminds me of me when I first started traveling.  She’s very green and naïve, which is very endearing, especially when it’s the love of your life.

I wish I could take a picture of Ward right now.  It’s ridiculous!!!

    Sugarland – Fall Into Me

Speaking of Sugarland, their new opening number is the best I’ve ever seen from both a musical and production standpoint.  I felt like I was at a Coldplay show at Slain Castle.

We are flying over a sheet of grey clouds at the moment.

Whatever happened to Terri Clark?  She just came on my ipod.

It’s about 39 degrees on this plane.  For some reason the girl beside me packed a parka for the trip, and she just wrapped it around her.

I love kids, but this one behind me is about to be stuck in the plane toilet!!!

Do I want to watch Gran Torino for the 4th time?

I sense we’re on the verge of mountains.

Seriously kid?  The funny thing is that I’ve turned around and looked at his mother as if to say, “Hey, it’s officially annoying”, and she just keeps reading her book!  I can hear him above the volume on my ipod.

This kid is human birth control.

Wow!  I’ve never done that before, but I just had to say something.  I kind of feel like a jerk, but I tried to do it nicely!!!  Please tell me anyone would have gotten sick of it after an hour?

Evidently the entire state of Kansas is covered with one giant cloud.  I haven’t seen the ground for 20 minutes.

So I went to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska Tuesday night, and it’s without a doubt the coolest thing I’ve done thus far.  I felt like I was at a SEC football game.  There were half a million people outside the stadium it seemed like.  It was hot, but it was well worth it.  We played the Whiskey Tango afterwards, and thanks Craig for everything.  It was truly a special first trip to Omaha.

The guy across the row from me has his flip-flops on, and he doesn’t appear to be a super tall man, but his feet look Shaq size.  I mean I think he may wear a size 17, and he’s more or less my height.  Slightly out of proportion I’d say.

I have to pee, but the girl beside me is asleep, and I feel bad about getting up!  Her husband has a really abnormally large head.  It’s really something.

I really don’t think I can hold it much longer…

    Fergie – Clumsy

The guy looks like he could be Frank Wycheck’s brother….

    I can’t wait anymore!  It’s pee time!

It’s getting a little bumpy, which is causing me to worry a little.  I hate bumps!  Bumps in the road, bumps on my face, bumps 35,000 feet in the air, pretty much all bumps stink.  I’m all for a bump-free world.

That sheet of grey cloud I was speaking of earlier, has now broken into thousands of perfect cotton ball sized clouds, 2398 to be exact.

Pretty sure guy with the big feet is picking at his tow nails.  Ugh!

I need to write a book on airplane etiquette.  Being someone who flies almost every week, some people have absolutely no clue.

I’m usually the sweaty kid in class, but this plane is frigid.  I mean absolutely freezing!!!

When I get up, I’m going to tell this kid I’m going to see my Grandmother, just to see what his reaction is.  Then I’m going to put him in that toilet.  Just kidding about the latter…  Ha-ha!  On a serious note, this kid should be the poster child for Ritalin!

Oh great, we anticipate a few bumps on the decent into Denver.  Oh I can’t wait!!!

I wish I could sleep on planes.  That was be splendid.

I’m almost done guys, but before I go, I want to tell you to beat down the doors and demand to hear Red Light on the radio.  If we are going to make it, it will be 100 percent because of you guys.  Thank you so much, and I look forward to seeing all of you soon out on the road…

Texas, Crying Babies, Crying Dogs, Red Light Road Trips

Texas, Crying Babies, Crying Dogs, Red Light Road TripsI’m quite sure there’s nothing in the world worse than a small child screaming, and that’s just what I have in front of me this afternoon on my flight from San Antonio to Atlanta.

The last three or four weeks have been an absolute blur.

This flight suddenly got real bumpy!  As much as I’ve flown the last few years, I’ve still yet to either get used to turbulence, or figure out the difference between not so bumpy, and REALLY bumpy.  It all makes me a little uneasy!

So back to me being busy.  I’ve been all over the map the last few weeks, and it appears that it’s going to get even busier right up until the wedding in June.  Speaking of weddings, I just heard last night from Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum, that he and his fiancé Cassie are getting married in July.  I don’t know Cassie as well as Charles, but I know Charles well enough to know he wouldn’t settle for anything less than the best, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

So last night I played an unbelievable side stage before the Chesney show in San Antonio, and as great as it always is to see his show, I was even more excited to see Lady A. and Miranda.  I had never seen Lady A. in such a big arena, and I stood like a proud parent watching them work the stage.  Hillary has become like a little sister to me, and I have to admit it was a tad bit odd to stand at the soundboard with her watching Miranda’s show, and have all these guys coming up for pictures.  I’m quickly growing overly protective I believe.  Miranda was a good as I’ve ever seen her.  I have to think she gets a wee bit more pumped up when playing in her home state.  I love standing behind her Mother and watch as she sings and sways as if it’s the first time she’s seen her daughter play.  It’s a really sweet and inspiring sight.

So I’m on my way to Memphis this afternoon via Atlanta.  Catherine has a shower this afternoon, and one tomorrow as well, and I feel as though I’ve not offered much lately, so I wanted to take the chance to spend an extra day with her in her hometown before I leave again Monday night.

So Monday I’m going to St. Louis for another addition of Red Light/Road Trips, and to say I’m fired up would be the most obvious statement I’ve ever made.  I’m a little nervous about being in a car with Joe Putnam for 5 hours, but hopefully he’ll take his medicine before we leave Nashville.  Speaking of Medicine, I went to Whole Foods the other night when news of this Swine Flu first broke, and bought up several various vitamins, and I have to admit, I definitely feel better than I have in months.  Traveling everyday can leave your body out of whack, and I really needed something that could at least give me a fighting chance to start each day.

If I’ve ever flown on a plane with dogs, I’ve not been aware of such an instance, but today there are two different guys with small dogs.  Now it’s weird enough to see two guys with little bitty dogs in a purse-like bag, but one of guy’s dog was making yelping/barking type sounds before we boarded, for what seemed like 30 minutes.  I finally went to the counter and asked “am I going to have to listen to that for 2 hours?”  Both agents quickly assured me that they were working on it, and literally 5 minutes later it stopped.  I didn’t ask, but I wonder if they put a muzzle on them, or maybe gave a pill to mellow them out, cause I haven’t heard a peep since, but I would’ve had to switch my flight had it continued.

P.S.  This is my first Air Tran flight, and I was a bit nervous about it, but other than the lack of room, and earlier bumps, it’s been fairly enjoyable.  The stewardesses are almost overly kind.  If I get offered peanuts one more time, I may lose it.  I mean if they want to offer me more orange juice, I’m listening, but it’s just the peanuts they’re bugging me with.

I’m currently listening to a collection of my favorite Scooter Causoe songs.  Scooter and I wrote a few songs for my record, and he had a few others he wrote with other writers.

These seats kind of recline at an odd position.  The XM radio on the flight is pretty sweet, though my seat doesn’t work, so I’ve got my headphone jack plugged into the lady in front of me’s armrest.  If she pulls her armrest down, she’s going to pull my ears off.

There was a wine store in the San Antonio airport, though I didn’t go in.  I find it hard to imagine wine being good from such a hot place.  It was 95 degrees yesterday when we played outside.  I looked like I was crying when I got off stage.  It’s hard to sing when you have sweat in your eyes.  It burns like fire!

I’m really into the new Keith Urban record.  Till Summer Come Around, is my favorite so far.  I love summer songs, and I have one or two on my record.

I got my swim trunks for my honeymoon at the greatest Outlet Mall in San Marcos!  This Outlet Mall had every store you could possibly imagine.

Albert Pujols will be the greatest baseball player of all-time when he retires, and I’m going to see him play Tuesday night.

I ran around the University of Texas campus in Austin on Thursday, and it was possibly the toughest run I’ve ever attempted.  It was real hilly, hot as heck, and the campus is huge.  I don’t know how I feel about the beauty of it, or lack of.  It seemed big and crammed together.

Pujols should be in spell check.

I really want to watch the big-time boxing match tonight.  I like the guy from the Philippines…  I want even try to spell his name.

If anybody wants to know where the best BBQ place in America is, I’ll give you two, and they’re both in Memphis.  Central BBQ and One And Only BBQ are hands down the best I’ve had, and I’ve had BBQ pretty much everywhere I’ve seen in offered across the country.  I consider myself a connoisseur on two fronts, BBQ and club sandwiches.  Those are my two favorites things to eat.  The best club sandwich used to be at Sam’s in Nashville, but the last two times I got it, the bread was kind of soggy, and I hate soggy bread, so I dropped them down from the top spot.  I really like the Corner Pub and Sportsmen’s Grill currently.

Okay, just moved my seat back, and there really isn’t much room on here.  I’m not a fan.  Plus, the lady just yelled at me about shutting down my computer….

Well I’m about 30 minutes from Memphis and that BBQ I’ve been drooling over the last few hours.

So I’m waiting to board my connection in Atlanta and I notice this lady holding a Missouri driver’s license.  I leaned down to see the city and it just so happen to say Bragg City, a small town about 5 miles east of Kennett, which is where I was born and raised.  I told her I was Kennett.  She had no clue who I was, not that I expected her to, but she was with a group of seniors from North Pemiscot High School who were on their way back from their senior trip.  Talk about a small world…  I got robbed from making the North Pemiscot Tournament Team my senior year of high school.  I was an awful basketball player, but I think I average nearly a double double, which I never did before or after.  Not that I’m bitter or anything!!!!

Whatever happened to Michael English, maybe one of the greatest singers of all-time?

Peanuts must be the thing with this Air Tran airline; they love you to have them…

    Little bumpy here…

I want to meet the first guy to “sag” his pants.  How that ever became a trend is something I simply will never understand.

Sometimes I wish I were from Massachusetts.  I don’t know why, guess I just think it sounds cool.

One of these kids from the high school is being real difficult to the flight attendants and it’s starting to not only annoy me, but also make me ashamed to be from southeast Missouri.

Well I’ll be, it wasn’t even peanuts, it was pretzels.

I had an aunt who once said, “If you can’t get it at Wal-Mart, you don’t need it.”  I steal that quote about once a week in radio interviews.

I’ll be filming some stuff in my hometown this week.  I have some ideas up my sleeve that’ll hopefully all work out.

Brett Dennen – Closer To You

Every show, my piano player Eric Kinny finds a new way to “take em to church.”

Evidently we didn’t leave on time, cause we should be descending now.

It suddenly got really bright inside this airplane.

Where are the supervisors sitting on this plane?  This kid is an embarrassment to his class, and yet a few of them think his stale routine is humorous.

I’m over airplanes for a while, or at least a week I guess.

I love music, but there’s no song that’s so awesome that I would feel the need to dance in my seat on an airplane.

If someone is on the fence about having kids, they need not fly, because there will most likely be a child on your flight that will make it a nightmare.

There is a beautiful little 2 or 3 year old in first class who’s playing peek-a-boo with me.  I’m just sticking out my tongue and she cracks up.  She’s a cutie…

Well, we’re descending now, peace out, and hello BBQ!!!!  Oh and Catherine too….

In 39 days there will be a Mrs. David Nail and that’s both really exciting, and slightly weird.

US Airways made huge ground with me this morning.  We slept about 4 hours in Cincinnati last night due to a surprise show on the field after the Reds game, and a 6:45am flight to West Palm Beach.  We had an hour layover in Charlotte, and I simply went up to the counter to try and find an empty row to stretch out in to catch up on some sleep.  Let’s just say I’m flying over the east coast of Florida from First Class thanks to the fine gentlemen from US Airways.

Oceans leave me speechless.  I thoroughly hope to have a small place near one someday in my lifetime.

So things are picking up career wise the closer we get to the wedding.  I can’t say how lucky I am to have found someone like Catherine. To steal a line from my favorite Halfway to Hazard song, “You might have just gone crazy, trying to love a music man.”  How ironic I just quoted those guys, cause I’m almost certain they’re on the bill tonight in West Palm.

    How about a little randomness?

Ward dropped his phone in a Tin Roof toilet Thursday night, and yes, the worst possible scenario you’re imagining right now was his very story.

The coffee in First Class is very much below average.

Florida has me overly excited.  The seafood I’m about to partake in at Legal’s Seafood tonight has me beyond such.

It’s a shame Kanye West is such a mess; cause the kid is so obviously talented.

I’m going to spend the weekend before my wedding in my favorite city, with 90 percent of my favorite people, and playing a club I’ve waited 5 years to play.

As tired as I am right now, I absolutely have to go to the beach today, even if it’s simply for an hour or so.

The NFL Draft is this afternoon, and this is the first year since I can remember that I won’t be watching.

I want to go fishing today.

There aren’t enough hours in the day for all that I want to do most days.

The water looks breathtaking from the sky this morning.  The weather couldn’t be anymore beautiful.

They say money can’t buy happiness, but if you could live where I’m looking at, I think you’d have a hard time finding ways to get upset.

I wish I’d seen Ray Charles live before he passed.

I’ll be in Austin and San Antonio, Texas next week.

Red Light Road Tours is something I’ve wanted to do for years, and hopefully we’ll be coming to your city sooner rather than later.  If you haven’t heard about it, read the blog titled Red Light Road Tours.  It’s very much the genius of the fine people at UMG.

I’m not going to blog about our journeys thus far just because I want the videos we shoot to be a surprise.

    Jesus Walks!!!

Oh, how did I forget?  Some guy from my earlier flight managed to spill his coke all over my leg!  I was even surprised by how calm I managed to stay!  I guess that was the price I paid for being moved to First Class for this flight.

When I saw the ocean for the first time, I was a 21-year-old naïve kid from small town Missouri, and an old friend said he felt like a father watching his 7 or 8-year-old son.  My quote as I stood there with my mouth open wide, “Dude, you could get in a boat and go to Cuba.”

    Airplanes baffled me.

I’m going to do something Tuesday morning that will be the coolest thing I’ve done so far, and I will only say it involves a radio station, and probably the most famous radio personality of all-time.

I’m almost on the verge of disowning both of my favorite NFL Teams, the St Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans.  I simply don’t know what they’re thinking again with their NFL Draft Picks.

DJ Moore to the Chicago Bears in the 4th RD will be the steal so far.  It’s either the Chicago Commodores or the Vanderbilt Bears now, I don’t know, you choose!!!

    I miss Catherine this afternoon.

I’m thinking we’re going to go see The Soloist tonight starring Jaime Foxx!

Nikki Taylor is on my flight home from Florida with her newborn.  She’s my height, with several, and I mean several tattoos.

I think if you brought a child on board today, you must have gotten a free round trip ticket to anywhere Southwest flies, cause there are about 15 running down the aisle like madmen!!!

I’m sitting by Amber Williams for the second flight this month, once to Vegas for the ACM’s and now home from Ft. Lauderdale!  Amber’s from Missouri as well, and happens to be one of the finest publicists in the country as far as I’m concerned…

K, found out today (Monday afternoon) that there will be a few new Red Light/Road Trips the next few weeks.  Keep glued to my Twitter to stay updated on where I’m heading next.  Till next time, RED LIGHT!!!
