Nashville, TN – MCA Nashville recording artist David Nail ended 2012 on a high note with his song and sophomore album title track (2011) “The Sound Of A Million Dreams” being on several country year end best-of lists.

Billboard.com’s Chuck Dauphin named “The Sound of A Million Dreams” his No. 1 song of the year in his Top 10 Country Songs wrap-up. Dauphin added “…this was (by far) Nashville’s best musical moment of 2012.” He went on to say “Nail is so ahead of the Music City curve that it’s scary.”

AOL’s The Boot listed “The Sound of A Million Dreams” as its No. 4 pick in their 12 Best Songs of 2012 stating “David can testify with the best of them vocally when the spirit moves him, and he definitely knows his way around a soulful lyric.”

No time for Nail to rest on his laurels. He’s back at work on his next album for MCA and he will be on the road opening up for Little Big Town on their Tornado Tour starting later this month.

THE “RODEO LIVE” STAGE TO FEATURE ACM SPONSORED PERFORMANCES

LAS VEGAS – November 12, 2012 – For the seventh consecutive year, the Academy of Country Music will host musical performances at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) held in Las Vegas from Thursday, December 6^th through Saturday, December 15^th.  Country artists will take the Rodeo Live Stage at Cowboy Fanfest, a new, fully interactive area that will feature the best of the Western lifestyle at the Las Vegas Convention Center.  The event is open to the public with free admission.

David Nail has always believed that music can make a difference in people’s lives. The Grammy-nominated vocalist, who’s currently headlining a small hall and large club tour, is now teaming with the people from Liberty Creek to anchor their Tunes for Troops program, which is part of the larger Operation Gratitude.

David Nail‘s ‘The Sound of a Million Dreams’ lyrics will resonate with every listener in some way, big or small. The tune was penned by hit singer-songwriter Phil Vassar and writer Scooter Carusoe.

“We were sitting together one day talking about how we used to hear these songs, and how these songs inspired us,” Vassar tells Taste of Country. “They are such a soundtrack of your life. We started playing this little tune and started talking about Bob Seger, Merle Haggard, our first concerts and things like that. ‘The Sound of a Million Dreams’ came out of that.”

David Nail Set For NYC’s Bowery Ballroom Sept. 18

Announcing Shows in Chicago, Boston & Cleveland As Part of Fall Tour

Nashville, TN: David Nail spent the past two years touring with some of music’s biggest names – from Taylor Swift to Lady Antebellum, Billy Currington to Gavin DeGraw – and he loves the thrill of the big stages and bigger crowds. But when it comes to feeding the soul of the Grammy-nominated Country Male Vocalist, he gets the most satisfaction when he’s up close and personal with his fans in the tightest, sweatiest rooms possible.

With a tour that’s on the verge of being announced, the man The Washington Post wrote “may be country’s most limber and soulful tenor this side of Ronnie Dunn” is slated to hit Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom on Sept. 18^th.

“There’s an energy when you hit New York that’s like nowhere else,” Nail says. “You can feel it in the air – and you can tell it in the fans. They really listen and hone in. This isn’t the simplest kind of country you can find, but it’s pretty real to how life actually is – and they respond to that.”

The tour also sees the man who can lure musicians like Rolling Stones’ musical director Chuck Leavell and Bonnie Raitt/former Bruce Hornsby & The Range guitarist George Marinelli into the studio bringing his soul-steamed country to a boil in various music venues across the nation. Look for the tour to stop at the House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 8, the Royale in Boston on Sept. 29, and Joe’s Bar in Chicago on October 20^th.

“Maybe it’s that I’ve been on the road so much,” Nail says, “but a lot of these cities are truly starting to feel like home. I’m starting to know the streets, the local bars, the baseball teams, and the way the fans invest in certain songs.

“Every place is unique, of course. But what I can honestly say over the last year is the one thing my fans have in common is their passion for these songs. It’s not just something to pump your fist to… Based on the stories people tell me backstage about different songs, even songs that aren’t singles like ‘Grandpa’s Farm,’ so many of them live lives just like what I’m singing about. They live these songs, and that’s why they’re coming out to see us play them live.”

Music industry trade HITS wrote of his beyond capacity show at Los Angeles’ storied Troubadour,  “Nail is ruggedly handsome, mixing the sophisticated appeal of, say, a Michael Buble with the declamatory style of straight-ahead rock storytellers like Mellencamp, Springsteen and Seger. (He) brings a bit of arena-rock into the tiny, bursting-at-the-seams Troubadour, and if the crowd reaction was any indication, he won’t be playing venues this intimate too much longer in the future,” while Billboard raved, “Nail may actually not be of this world, but at least we get to borrow his talents for a while.” Music Row proclaimed of a Nashville performance, “He blew the roof off the Ryman when he sang.”

Unfortunately, the fourth play turned out to be lethal. With a low line drive in his field of vision, Nail went low, made the out, and walked off the field with both a minor fracture and a detached tendon for his efforts.

“You put me in the game, and I only know one speed: hard,” says the Grammy-nominated vocalist. “I only play all-out – and that’s what I was doing. I can’t believe I broke something doing it; but at least I got my out.”

"Headline Country" host Storme Warren, teammate Chuck Wix, 104.5 The Zone sports-talk afternoon producer JT, and even Blair Garner himself, all hailed Nail for his incredible efforts during the game.

Nail also played a scorching set at The Riverstage Friday afternoon. Closing with his blistering “Grandpa’s Farm,” the man, who hit #1 with “Let It Rain,” was nominated for Academy of Country Music Single of the Year with the Top 10 “Red Light,” and was nominated for a Grammy with “Turning Home,” set the industry VIPs and fans ablaze with the song’s freewheeling intensity.

“It’ been a good week,” he said in Emergency Room #15 at Vanderbilt Hospital. “In spite of this… I’ve got a really good neurosurgeon who will look at this next week, so I know I’ll be okay long term. Right now, I just know I played hard, got to see a lot of the people from around the country who’ve been there with us over the past few years, and, hopefully, made a few new believers along the way.”

David Nail’s “Dreams” Opens CMA Music Fest at LP Field

Teams w Nashville School of Arts Chamber Choir for Opening Ceremony

Nashville, TN: CMA Music Fest is easily country music’s biggest week, attracting fans and music lovers from all over America and a myriad of places around the globe. For an aspiring musician, a young songwriter, or even Dolly Parton’s biggest fan, it is the stuff (literally) that dreams are made of. To that end, David Nail kicks off the festivities at LP Field on June 7th, joining the acclaimed Nashville School of the Arts Chamber Choir, under the direction of Walter Bitner, for the title track to his The Sound of A Million Dreams.

“It’s incredible what the CMA does to support music education,” says Nail. “The opportunity for the Nashville School of the Arts Chamber Choir to be able to be on that stage at LP Field… to experience that at this stage of their musical development… that is astounding and empowering, and well, the thing that dreams are made of.”

Anyone whose seen the Grammy-nominated vocalist’s video for “The Sound of a Million Dreams,” which debuted during CMT’s Big New Music Weekend, has seen a young David Nail being introduced by his band director father. In the clip, a very determined 6 year old is brought onstage, marches over to the drums, and starts playing. Little did anyone know that the child in the video would grow up to be the man Entertainment Weekly would deem, “a voice that’s even easier listening than Keith Urban’s…” and The Washington Post would declare, “Nail’s soulful tenor may be country’s most soulful this side of Ronnie Dunn.”

“When you’re in school, it’s hard to know what this dream feels like,” Nail says. “You have all kinds of ideas – most of them wrong. In some ways, it’s much harder… the getting there… than you’d think, but it’s also so much sweeter when you’re really experiencing it.

“Beyond all the financial support the CMA has given through their Keep The Music Playing charity, it’s the opportunities like these that are the stuff that gives kids something money can’t provide: the sense of what it is they’re dreaming.”

Certainly this has been the year of many dreams for Nail. Beyond singing at Game 7 of the World Series, where his St. Louis Cardinals took it all, the man who’d been nominated for the Academy of Country Music’s Single of the Year for “Red Light” set a chart record for the longest rising #1 with “Let It Rain.” And on Thursday, June 7, Nail will make a few dreams come true for several high school students who’re starting to recognize the power of their own musical dreams.

While his kind of country may not sound like Kitty Wells or Roy Acuff, David Nail takes a page from Patsy Cline’s complicated emotional canvases, Glen Campbell’s songscapes, and Willie Nelson’s notion of real life set to music. So if his progressive country soul seems like an odd fit for the Country Music Hall of Fame, the powers that be recognized his singular take on the genre – and asked him to kick off their Hot Nights at the Hall series on June 5^th at 7 pm.

“I have a strong respect for all the music that happened long before I came to this town,” Nail says. “I remember when I discovered Garth Brooks, and that made me go back… I wanted to learn where his music came from, and I started digging. I found Glen Campbell – and I just kept going, because country’s past is what gives a lot of my music, I hope, it’s soul.

“To be asked by the Hall of Fame to perform, especially on the verge of CMA Fest, that makes me feel like what I’m doing isn’t lost. When folks like that recognize what’s going in my music, then I know I’m moving in a good direction-- especially when they think I’m strong enough to play on the verge of CMA Music Fest, literally the night before the CMT Awards, when so many country fans will be coming in from all over America.”

Indeed, Nail’s June 5^th gig is the night before CMT’s Music Awards – and just as the CMA’s Music Fest is about to kick off. The man, who scored his first #1 with “Let It Rain” – after a record-setting 48 week rise to the top of the charts, is quickly finding his place as a consummate vocalist committed to the complexities of real moments and the way they impact us.

“The Hall of Fame is itself so important – and such a dream for so many artists,” explains the band director’s son from Kennett, Missouri. “What they do to preserve and call attention to all the artists who’ve helped create and expand this music is pretty hard to believe. They protect the instruments, clothes, records and recordings – and in that, they make sure that country music’s past isn’t lost forever. It doesn’t take much for that to happen, either. So I am honored in any way to help support the work they do.”

With “The Sound of a Million Dreams” hitting the Top 40, the man Billboard called “stunning” finishes up his Spring tour with Billy Currington and gets ready to get back into the more intimate rooms where he and his band can stretch out and play the musically-driven shows that were selling out small halls and rock clubs across the Midwest, Southeast and West Coast prior to his run with Gavin DeGraw.

David Nail knows what it’s like to stand on the edge and wonder how the dream feels. While he can’t buy people their own island in the sun or a new convertible, he realizes there’s a passion about how it feels when the music hits the fans that is indescribable. To that end, the Grammy-nominated singer has been reaching out to the fans for each of his shows on the Billy Currington tour to let a pair of dreamers sit in the wings for his set.

“To feel what we feel when we’re onstage, and with the fans giving us all of that energy back…,” says the band director’s son from Kennett, Missouri, “there is nothing like that feeling. It’s not something you can’t put into words, and it’s something I wish everyone who’s ever sung along to ‘Red Light’ or ‘Let It Rain’ or ‘Turning Home’ could feel: to know that experience.

 “I realize I can’t give away rides on a jet or take someone to Las Vegas for a weekend, but I’ve been so blessed and so fortunate, especially with the support my fans have given me. I wanted to give something back… to let them experience what this is that they’ve made possible for me. So, I figured I’d share the dream with at least a few.”

Working with local radio stations and through Twitter, Nail has sought out fans who want to share a moment of what it’s like. Response has been good, and in some ways, it’s made the Currington tour experience even more meaningful.

“As a big fan of David’s for several years, getting to meet him in person (FINALLY!!) and sit onstage during his concert was an absolute dream come true,” wrote Christy Bise about the Salem, Virginia show. “The kindness and generosity shown by David was something we’ll never forget. The whole experience far exceeded anything we could have ever imagined.”

“When we get emails like this, it reminds me how powerful all of this is,” Nail says of the response. “I’ve been able to tour with Taylor Swift and my friends in Lady A, so I know what this is… but to be able to let someone else sit right there and feel it, too… that’s almost as powerful: seeing the look on people’s faces the first time the crowd hits them.

“We can’t do this everywhere, but when we can, it’s awesome.”

Warming up with headlining dates at the Boathouse in Myrtle Beach, SC  (5/16) and the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC (5/17), Nail heads into his final weekend with Billy Currington at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC (5/18) and the Rome River Jam in Rome, GA (5/19). After a fun run and “The Sound of a Million Dreams” hitting the Top 40, Nail knows this weekend he’ll get to make a few more dreams come true.

While people think of Grammy-nominated country vocalist David Nail as a singer’s singer, it’s easy to forget that he’s also a compelling songwriter. The folks at Music Row didn’t miss that fact; announcing their annual Awards nominees, David Nail’s history-making #1 “Let It Rain” placed him among the nominees for their Breakthrough Songwriter Award. 

“There are so many great songwriters in this town,” says the taciturn man with the pair of gold downloads for “Let It Rain” and “Red Light,” his breakout single. “To me, as a singer, I just want to try to honor what the writers create – and as someone who’s trying to write songs, I just hope I can stand in their company and not embarrass myself.”

Taking 48 weeks to reach the top of the country radio charts, “Let It Rain” became the longest rising chart-topper in history. A song of straying and consequence, it built slow but endured as people responded to the gritty truth of the song’s very grown-up message.

In addition to singing at the 7^th game of the World Series, where his home team Cardinals took it all, the Kennett, Missourian was asked to take part in an elite performance series at the Sundance Film Festival, sold out headlining Midwestern and Southern tours, sang “Let It Rain” on “The Tonight Show” the week it was #1, hit the road with Gavin DeGraw, and is now watching the title track to The Sound of a Million Dreams climb the charts.

“The thing I love about ‘The Sound of a Million Dreams’ is the way it’s all about how powerful songs are… the way they hold your life for you, so when you hear them, you’re right back there,” Nail says. “To me, that was everything we were trying to do with ‘Let It Rain.’ How would it be if you were ever in that position: having to admit you’d done something wrong, then facing the consequences? How would that feel? How do you capture that? This nomination makes me feel like… maybe… we did.”

In a world where the gap between artist and music lover is non-existent, David Nail posted a request on Facebook: to tell him the songs that take you back, that put you in the moment – and he was surprised by the breadth and depth of responses. Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Denver, Will Smith, Def Leppard, Stephen Stills, Sara Bareilles, Eric Clapton, Puddle of Mudd, and Stevie Wonder were among the artists fans listed as the storytellers of the songs that bring their memories to life.

As “The Sound of a Million Dreams” cracks the Top 40 at country radio, the list of songs and stories that inspire his fans just keeps growing. In fact, the Grammy-nominated vocalist is hoping people will Tweet him (@davidnail) to tell him which songs, what memories, and the last time they experienced the miracle of how songs transform moments.

“Some people tell me about karaoke memories,” says Nail, “and other people tell me about friends who were killed, grandparents who passed on, the girl who left them… the stories are so personal and often a long time ago, yet when they hear a song on the radio, it’s like it’s happening again… right in that moment. The more stories I hear, the more responses I wanna see.”

On Nail’s Facebook page, one fan cited “Amanda” by Don Williams as their touchstone song, saying “I can still my Daddy’s asthmatic voice singing this song,” while someone else named, “Holes in the Floor of Heaven” with “Both times I found out each of my grandparents died, that song was playing. Sad, but true. And both times, it was raining.” Also, “Freebird” was listed with “Brings me back to spreading my dad’s ashes on my mother’s grave. I can picture it clearly.”

“You don’t always think about that stuff,” says Nail. “Because it’s what happens to the song after you sing it… It goes into the world, and then it becomes the people who live their lives in your music. I don’t think a lot of us realize – and reading these stories on Facebook and Twitter has sure given me a sense I’m not the only one whose life is captured on the radio.”
