David Nail: Fremont Street like 'Fan Fair with casinos'

David Nail took time out from lounging by the pool on Saturday afternoon to tell The Tennessean about playing to fans on Fremont Street on Friday night and share his expectations about Sunday’s ACM Awards.

“It was kind of like playing Fan Fair with casinos all over the place,” Nail said. “You looked out there, and you knew that most of those people weren’t from Las Vegas. You also could tell that everybody had drank too much, and that you could get away with anything on stage. I didn’t stray too far from my normal though.”

As for Sunday night’s awards show, Nail doesn’t have a whole lot of confidence his song “Red Light” is going to win its single record of the year category. He pointed out he was up against Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now,” which he thinks is stiff competition. (Other nominees include “Toes” by Zac Brown Band, “White Liar” by Miranda Lambert and Billy Currington’s “People are Crazy.”)

“If I do win Cuba Gooding Jr.’s acceptance speech for Jerry Maguire is going to look lame,” he said. “They are going to be glad they have that seven second delay because I’m going to be jumping all over the place.”
