David Nail's debut album, 'I'm About to Come Alive,' landed in the Top 20 last year, and churned out three singles, including the Top 10 hit, 'Red Light.' Now, the Missouri native is working on his sophomore album, which he says is both exhilarating and intimidating.

"I've always heard the term you have your entire life to write your first album," David tells The Boot. "I've learned really quickly that that's true. So now I'm writing with kind of a timeline ... you have to be done at a certain point. My first record was fairly dark. A few of the years before I made them was a fairly dark point in my life and now I'm happily married, and I don't have a whole lot of angry things to talk about. We'll see. I've never really written a happy song, so I'm struggling."

The singer, who considered becoming a professional baseball player before committing to music full-time, says he never considered a genre other than country. "I grew up listening to a lot of different kinds of music," he explains. "But just like a lot of people in the 1990s, when country got it's big boom, I got sucked in pretty hardcore. Unlike a lot of people, I was never content with maybe what was current. Then I began to start researching back to the '80s, '70s, '60s -- and it was then and there that I found a guy named Glen Campbell. I realized that's who I want to be. I want to sound like Glen Campbell. He just sounds like a really cool guy. And I haven't lived near as hard and cool a life as Glen, but I've learned that there has already been one Glen Campbell. I'll settle for just singing like him, or trying to sing like him."

David may not be able to mimic his favorite singer, but he certainly shares some of the same career aspirations. "I'm more or less just trying to join the fray of good music," he says. "People ask me all the time how I'd describe my music and I say 'Well, I hope it's good.' Hopefully people will just enjoy it for being good music and take from it whatever it makes them feel."

David is currently on the road with Lady Antebellum. Find his tour schedule here.

Others thought I ventured out Nov. 12th driving almost 2 hours all by myself to Atlanta because I was obsessed to see Lady Antebellum...they are great, of course...have two albums....but I had to be there to see David N....just had to. This was my 2nd time to see/hear David live. Writing/composing myself again after hearing him...not since my own band in the 70s have I done that....no one else has really moved me musically since then. But, David...I'm hooked! And, the fans leaving the Fox Theatre were really amazing singing your praises. Thank you so much for two wonderful experiences. You will be hearing from me...maybe even from my treble and bass clef scores. Hannah C.

Concert in Biloxi was awesome...and the reviews from Florida shows are below. WRITE WHAT YOU'RE FEELIN DAVID NAIL!!!! WE'LL BUY 'EM UP!!! Nashville singer-songwriter David Nail kicked off the evening with one of the best opening performances I’ve experienced in recent history. Nearly as impressive as his music, Nail also managed to draw much of the people who’d come to see Lady A into the theater for his set. Based on the poor attendance experienced by many opening acts, this was not an easy feat. It’s also rare to find a support act who not only manages to get audiences on their feet, but gets them clapping and singing along as well. I’m sure it won’t be long before we see the name David Nail in his own headlining slot. Nashville singer-songwriter David Nail opened the evening with a high-energy set, filling the hall early. Although his performance was brief, Nail made quite an impresson the Tampa audience and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in town again soon.
